Ways to Implement
Each Hero or Hype Biography Assignment comes with everything you need to guide students through the process. An instructional slideshow introduces the project and sets clear expectations. Each figure includes a two-page reading, available in a Google Doc for easy digital access, classroom reading, or printing. Students can then complete an illustrated 11×17 poster (which can also be printed on two 8.5×11 pages) that combines written responses, key details, and a coloring component.
The heart of the assignment is to have students make claims about the historical figure and support their claims with evidence. Each assignment provides a graphic organizer to scaffold this process, helping students structure their ideas step by step. To further support learning, each assignment also includes a pre-writing planner, a rubric, an answer key, and student samples.
