The Medieval times feel so different from the world we live in today, and it’s fascinating to see students imagine what life might have been like centuries ago. It’s also fun when they notice the surprising similarities that still exist! This post highlights some of our favorite engaging activities for teaching the medieval world. We’ll walk through three key resources that bring history to life: our Medieval Europe Unit, our Medieval Times Curriculum, and our Medieval Times History Mystery. The Foundation: Medieval Europe History Unit
Let’s start with a resource that focuses specifically on Medieval Europe. This comprehensive Medieval Europe unit includes over 300 pages. It covers the Middle Ages, Feudalism, and the Dark Ages. This unit is carefully organized into eight folders: Introduction, Geography, Vocabulary, Guided Notes and Readings, Activities, Bell Ringers, Big Ideas Review, and Assessments. The unit tests are editable and emphasize Claim-Evidence-Reasoning (CER) to help students build historical thinking and analytical skills.

The Big Picture: A Complete Medieval Times Curriculum

Each “history mystery” begins with a short, high-interest reading followed by a focus question such as, “Was there a Children’s Crusade?” or “Did the Vikings settle Minnesota?” Students gather evidence from the reading and use the CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) framework to develop and support their claims.
Every mystery includes two differentiated CER templates, a reading annotation guide, sentence stem handouts, and answer keys.
