Description:

This American Colonies (13 US Colonies) geography map activity and worksheet is entirely student-driven, fun, and interactive (grades 5, 6, 7, or 8). Our Where in the World Map activity for the 13 Colonies includes a few reference map examples but can also be done with any textbook map or atlas that has the physical geography of the East Coast of the US.

First, students create a physical and political map of the US Colonies, labeling key features and all 13 original colonies. A template is included. Then, students play the Where in the World Scavenger Hunt printable clue game. Students guess the features by reading four description clues for differing geographical features of the eastern US.

Here’s what students do:

1. Map Creation: Students take the reins to craft a physical original map of 13 colonies, labeling its key features and political map. This hands-on activity encourages a deeper understanding of the region’s layout.

2. Where in the World Scavenger Hunt: The fun continues with the Where in the World Scavenger Hunt digital or printable clue game.  Students become geography detectives, and they decipher four description clues related to various geographical features of the North American Colonies.
